adaptive

The Community Recreational Initiatives Society (CRIS) Adaptive Adventures is launching its adaptive winter activities at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Center this season. We are looking for volunteers and participants willing to come have some fun in the snow. We invite new volunteers who want to come out and lend a hand as well as any person with a disability that inhibits them from getting outside without some assistance and/or adaptation to come enjoy some adaptive snowshoeing and cross country skiing this winter!
CRIS is a unique and powerful non-profit organization that started in 2001 by Troy Becker. It is our mission to provide relief people with physical and mental disabilities by developing and implementing outdoor recreation programs that promote independence, assist with integration, reduce isolation and improve the mental well-being of these individuals.
CRIS activities utilize adaptive equipment in the beautiful outdoors to unite volunteers and outdoor enthusiasts with disabilities. We assist people of all ages and abilities to participate in and enjoy the great outdoors and to explore places they would not otherwise be able to access on their own. CRIS Adaptive Adventures replaces isolation with friendship, and disability with possibility. Both volunteers and participants improve emotional, mental and physical health, create social bonds and experience the wonders of the natural world while conquering doubts to move beyond expectations. Our adaptive adventures include: hiking, cycling, kayaking, rock climbing, multi-day trips, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and much more!
Stay tuned for more information about our new winter activities.
