Heather Mehain has capped what has been an amazing cross ski season with gold. She out skied the field of 41 starters at the Canadian National Cross Country Ski Championships in the Junior Women's Sprint race held in the second week of March in Canmore. She adds this to a gold medal for BC in the Canada Winter Games in Halifax. The gold was won in the relay race where she was teamed with 3 other very fast BC team members.

One of the most exciting experiences of her skiing career was in qualifying to represent Canada at the World Junior Championships which were held in Oetepaa, Estonia. As a lead up to Oetepaa, Heather spent a week training with Team Canada in Finland. To qualify for World Juniors, Heather had to prove herself at World Junior trials which in Thunder Bay in the new year. She earned her spot on the team with a 2nd place finish out of a field of 53 in the 10k classic with a time of 32:43.

Heather's successes can be attributed to a number of factors; exceptional coaching in Darrren Derochie, a supportive family; mom, Mae herself a very accomplished Master skier, and years of hard training.
Heather's ski season isn't over. She has been selected to travel with Canada's National to compete in the Spring Series Tour in Sun Valley Idaho from March 26th to April 02.
