Snowshoeing

The Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre
now has more than 14 km of self guided, signed snowshoe trails for you to explore.

Our main "Trapline" trail is great for families because of its many shortcuts. You can go further afield and head to the Black Prince Cabin on the "Cabin Fever" trail or go to the lookout on "White Rabbit".

What do I need to know to get started snowshoeing?

Anyone can snowshoe, it's as easy as walking and fun for all ages and fitness levels. Snowshoeing gives you a great low-impact, heart-healthy workout that burns approximately 25 percent more calories than walking. Today's compact, streamlined frames and asymmetric shapes enable snowshoers to have a normal stance and natural stride. Easy-to-use bindings provide directional control and stability in variable terrain and snow conditions.

What type of footwear do I need for snowshoeing?

Warm, waterproof and supportive hiking boots are best. Snowshoes fit a variety of boot styles and sizes (i.e. soft pack, hiking, mountaineering, and snowboard boots).
