SLNC is very excited to announce that ViaSport BC has provided the club with a $6000 event hosting grant for our NorAm taking place December 9-10, 2017. Thank you so much for supporting racing in British Columbia!
This grant helps to offset our timing and other race specific expenses.
In cooperation with GeoCaching BC, Sovereign Lake Nordic Club has undertaken an initiative to place 10 geo caching stations throughout our cross country ski trail and snowshoe trail network.
GeoCaching is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called “geocaches” or “caches”, at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world.
A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and sometimes a pen or pencil. The geocacher enters the date they found it and signs it with their established code name, in order to prove that they found it. After signing the log, the cache must be placed back exactly where the person found it.
We are excited to offer this great family friendly activity at our facility and look forward to many years of use. With over 1 million geocaching locations in almost every country around the world our 10 should add a unique regional flavour. The stations remain year round so you can visit us in the summer as well!
Sovereign Lake will be hosting a Geo Caching Day in association with GeoCachingBC and BC Parks on February 25th from 10-2pm. We will have 20 GPS units available for the public to use as well as link options for you to register your own phone to start exploring. Stay tuned for the upcoming event on our website and social media feeds.
1st Annual Cyclocross Race A Huge Success.
With just over 70 competitors our first cyclocross event at Sovereign was a great success. While the weather for most people was horrible on Saturday with non stop rain, it actually is the most fun for a cyclocross event where mud, cold temps, and a bit or pain and suffering are coming character traits of a quality cyclocross race.
