Program Committee Bio’s

Barb Riley serves as the Programs Committee chair and as the representative for Adult/ Masters programs. Barb’s retirement included a move from Ontario to SilverStar in Fall 2022. Nordic skiing and the world-class, linked trails between Sovereign Lake and SilverStar were the biggest draw. Barb is a Masters athlete and coach at Sovereign. She brings relevant expertise and experience, including leadership, communications, facilitation, applied health research, and mental health promotion. Barb also brings energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity for how best to support the people, the programs, the partnerships, and the passions within the SLNC community.
Marta Green is a parent of two athletes in the youth programs, a Jackrabbit Level 3/4 coach and enjoys all forms of skiing including making fresh tracks on Vernon’s many sections of the grey canal network when conditions allow. Marta has been with Sovereign Lake for almost 20 years. Marta started her jackrabbit career with Hollyburn Jackrabbits at the age of around 10 and started racing when she was 13. She is an alumni of the UBC varsity Nordic ski team, and BC ski team. A highlight of her ski career is kissing a cod at the Canada Winter Games in Cornerbrook Newfoundland. In her professional life, Marta is a senior project manager and hydrogeologist with Associated Environmental and brings concepts of business planning to the Programs company. She is also a trained Learning Facilitator and has taught coaching courses for Cross Country BC.
Lisa Heidt “Between myself and my two children, we have participated in nearly every available Sovereign Program, from Jackrabbits to Master’s. Sport for life is a mandate I hold dear, and it is my hope that by participating on the Program Committee, I can give back to this special place, and help other families connect over a love of skiing. Additionally, I hope that by spearheading fundraising activities, we can broaden participation in youth XC racing. As a healthcare professional and parent, I see the benefits a supportive community and physical activity can provide to youth mental and physical health.”
