SLNC Opening Delayed

Due to an unfortunate amount of rain and warm temperatures this past week we regret to inform our members and the public that there will be no skiing at Sovereign for the foreseeable future until we have sufficient snowfall.  As soon as we have 15cm of packed snow we will open for operations.

We are also suspending our day ticket launch until we can confirm an opening date to reduce the number of refunds required.

Thank you for your patience.

Save the Date – AGM and Elections

The Annual General Meeting and the election of Board members will be held on Wednesday, October 21, at 7 PM Pacific time.   This year’s AGM will be held virtually and you MUST pre-register in order to attend. You will receive instructions in October.

Run for the Board – The deadline to apply is September 30th.
We are looking for enthusiastic people who want to help Sovereign Lake Nordic Club continue to offer the finest Nordic skiing anywhere (in our humble opinion). Six positions are coming due this year, so if you have what it takes to be a great Board member, be sure to put your name forward!

The main requirement to be a Board member is a commitment to Sovereign Lake, an ability to spend 8-12 hours per month on Board activities including a once-per-month Board meeting, and the willingness to commit to a 2-year term on the Board.  New Board members must attend an orientation session during the first month. The Board makes a wide range of decisions on behalf of the club. Check out past meeting minutes to get an idea of what’s involved. For the term ahead, the board requires people with skills in HR, Fundraising, and Volunteer Coordination.

The nominations deadline is 11:59 PM on Wednesday, September 30th.
Nominations and applications will not be accepted after the stated deadline.  (Note:  The deadline is a little earlier than in the past year, so we have time to organize the virtual meeting and electronic election).

To put your name forward, please complete a brief bio (items to include are listed below) and email it to the Chair of the SLNC Election Committee – Kim Taylor. Bios will be posted on the SLNC website at least 5 days prior to the AGM. Complete details concerning the nomination process, information about the Board and the election process are found below in this message.  If you have any questions or need further information, please contact any one of us at the emails below.

BC Parks Are Once Again Open

We are so excited to hear that SilverStar Provincial Park is back open to the public. While there is still snow on the ground on most trails, mountain bike and hiking season is just around the corner! There have been a few intrepid explorers still out on skis. We just want to impart the necessity to continue to social distance, recreate in family groups and if you see any litter please pick it up and place it into one of our waste bins. This park belongs to us all and we need to take care of it together.

Happy Spring Everyone!

Call for Volunteer Groomers

Sovereign is seeking a couple of individuals that can assist with small trail grooming and freshening up of trails with our tracked Quads and Ginzu groomers. If this sounds like something that would interest you please reach out to SLNC General Manager for more details. Training is provided. Thanks!

CANSI Courses a HUGE Success

The Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI) hosted two instructor courses this past weekend at Sovereign Lake training 20 new CANSI Level 1 and 2 Instructors. These instructors are taking part in our Masters Ski Programs as well as with our Ski School for teaching lessons to members and the general public. Congrats to all our successful candidates.

SLNC Holiday Club Potluck

Join us Sunday, December 15th, for a wonderful evening with old and new friends to celebrate the holiday season. The lodge will stay open from 5pm to 8pm, with our potluck dinner taking place at 6pm. Stay for a ski afterward under the lights and stars. This is a Family Event for all. Bring a shareable menu item (with ingredients list) and a musical instrument! Coffee and hot chocolate will be served.

Mark your calendars!

POWDR Corporation Buys SilverStar Resort

There is exciting news in the Vernon ski community this morning as it was just announced that Silverstar Mountain Resort has been purchased by POWDR Corporation, a Utah based mountain lifestyle company that aims to maintaining and grow ski culture versus simply the selling of real estate.

It has been confirmed with Silverstar that this change in ownership will not affect Dual Area Passholders and that all existing agreements and partnerships will carry forward through the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

SLNC Opening Delayed to November 8th

Due to a high-pressure cell hanging over the Southern Interior, we have not received any additional snowfall this past week to allow for opening. Roughly 15km of trails have been packed but lack sufficient snow depth for our opening trails to the public. Many areas are very shallow with stubble from fall brushing. The gate will remain closed until opening next week. Do a snow dance for us!
